Automobiles in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Officers stated they were notified by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A high-ranking official said the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
